The 6th European School Chess Championship, which was held in Novi Sad, Serbia 20-28 June, 2013 was officially closed yesterday, in Master Center Hall of Novi Sad Fair. The organizers provided a rich cultural programme. During the prize giving ceremony, the guests were welcomed, among others, by Ms. Sava Stoisavljevic, Secretary General of the European Chess Union, on behalf of the ECU President Silvio Danailov.
"The reasons of my pleasure for being here are double this time: as Secretary General of the European Chess Union, I am very satisfied with the fact that the European School Championship has passed in excellent conditions and exceptional organisation, but, first of all, let me say that it makes me especially pleased and honoured to know that the remarkable host of this event has been Novi Sad, the city where I was born." - said Ms. Stoisavljevic.
The tournament start was marked by a record. 274 participants (13 national federations) are taking part, which is the highest number in the history of this competition.
The results, tables and 80 games per round will be daily published at the official tournament website.
The opening ceremony of the 6th European School Chess Championship was held in Master Center Hall of Novi Sad Fair, with a rich cultural and arts programme. The guests were welcomed by the tournament director Miroslav Kopanja on behalf of the technical organiser, Vojvodina Chess Federation, following which President of Serbian Chess Federation Miodrag Vukotic greeted all those present at the ceremony.
On behalf of Silvio Danailov, President of the European Chess Union, Executive Director of the European Chess Union Vladimir Sakotic welcomed the participants.
"I wish you nice and successful 7 days in Novi Sad, I wish you to get to know this city and its true values and come back to it one day as top chess players." – said Mr. Sakotic.
The competition was officially opened by Member of the City Council for Sports and Youth Predrag Svilar on behalf of the city of Novi Sad – patron of this chess event.
